Happy New Year!

AdoptALab.org would like to wish all our adopters, supporters and adoptees a happy new year!

We have adopted over 4500 Labrador retrievers and other breeds since our founding in 2003 and we cannot thank our adopters and supporters enough who have helped AdoptALab.org to help so many dogs in such a short time.

With another year of growth and accomplishment, we are thrilled to announce that AdoptALab.org is growing again with the opening of our new rescue facility. With the opening of this new facility, we have made the investment to further improve our operations, to help even more deserving dogs in 2010 and beyond.

In October, AdoptALab.org purchased a commercial property with about 2700 square foot of space. The building is on two levels; a first floor which sits at street level, and a walk-out lower level that opens onto nearly an acre of exercise space.

In this newly-refurbished lower-level doggy daycare area, we have room to house about 50 rescue dogs, with each one having their own doggy bedroom. Our Labs come in initially and go to local foster homes for some in home time with a family. During this time, they are tested with kids, cats and other dogs in a home setting. Once they have successfully completed this fostering, our rescue dogs then come to our new facility to live for 1 to 2 weeks.

While in this daycare-type setting, AdoptALab.org dogs get to have two extended playgroups per day with other dogs and interact on a regular basis with our head trainer. This allows us to introduce and evaluate each and every dog with a minimum of 12 other dogs during the time they spend with us. We feel like this gives us the best of both types of temperament testing: How they act in a home setting, as well as each dog's capabilities for the dogpark, doggy daycare or dog walker once they go to their forever homes.

The lower level is now in operation, but we are really looking forward to beginning work on the first level of our new facility to house our first spay and neuter clinic, which we hope to open in the summer of 2010. We are looking forward to making a positive impact on the dog over-population we see everyday by offering low-cost spay and neuter services to the general public in addition to the dogs we rescue. This is such an important mission, and our heart's desire is to spay and neuter ourselves out of business!

We cannot thank our supporters enough for making this possible. We have had such generous donations of equipment, kennels, labor and appliances. If you would like to donate to the AdoptALab.org effort to help even more dogs in 2010, and to help control pet over-population, please donate whatever you can. The dogs we rescue every day bark out a big thank you to all!
